Many new cars for the last few years come with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that manage safety features like Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Monitoring, and more. When functioning properly, these features provide enhanced safety for the vehicle’s occupants.
Like most systems on vehicles, though, ADAS can only operate properly with the proper settings in place. And a number of things can cause the ADAS settings to become misaligned. That’s why it’s critical to have them checked periodically.
If the system isn’t properly calibrated, one or more of its safety features may not function properly – or at all. A good rule of thumb is to have your ADAS calibration checked with each oil change, at a minimum, and whenever any sensor has suffered damage or been replaced.
An example of an event requiring ADAS recalibration is windshield replacement, since there are cameras and sensors installed on the windshield. Additionally, a fault code, disconnect of the vehicle’s battery, wheel alignment, or a change in the suspension system will often call for an ADAS reset.
Your ADAS will definitely need to be checked if you’ve had any sort of fender-bender, even if damage is minimal. Since the Advanced Driver Assistance System on your vehicle plays a crucial part in safety, it’s unwise to skip these necessary resets. Keep yourself and your passengers safe by ensuring your ADAS is optimized. We can do that for you!
