Automotive paint jobs can eventually lose their luster after a few years in the sun and the elements. Faded and oxidized paint doesn’t necessarily mean your car needs to be repainted, though. Depending upon how deep the damage is, it’s possible that your vehicle can be made to look close to new again, without having to repaint your car. Here’s how Carmona’s Collision does it.
Assuming your car has no dents, rust, or deep scratches in its existing paint, some careful buffing can almost certainly improve its depth of color and luster. Hand buffing with a rubbing compound can often work out trouble spots, but it’s sometimes necessary to do the entire vehicle in order to avoid different appearances from one part of the car to another.
Rubbing out an entire car can be a lengthy process – and tiring, as you know if you’ve ever done it yourself. But a buffing machine can provide the same result, while saving both time and energy. Of course, care must be taken not to overdo it. When using a buffing machine, it’s easy to be too aggressive, so our body and paint shop technicians have been trained to approach the task with great care. They may start with sanding, and can use a wool pad or a less aggressive foam pad, along with rubbing and polishing compounds of different abrasiveness – typically between 1,000 and 5,000 grit equivalent - to ensure a uniform process and high luster.
Glazing is another process we sometimes use, in order to remove the swirly marks left by a wool buffing pad. For this process, we use a non-abrasive glaze, applied with a gentle foam pad.
The final phase of your paint restoration will be a high-quality wax, designed to protect your paint from further damage by the sun’s UV rays.
You will be amazed at the transformation of your vehicle’s paint job after Carmona’s expert paint restoration professionals finish their work. Let us shave years off your car’s appearance.
